I’m often telling students I meet about cultural habits & favorites of North Americans. One of the things they find interesting, (at least I hope so) is the fondness for sandwiches as a favorite food pastime. So much more than hamburgers, sandwiches are, and always have been the go-to food choice. I think sandwiches are iconic to North American cuisine.

I think I agree! And yet its first use is attributed to an Englishman in the 1700s: The Earl of Sandwich.
