Instinctive Intuition?

Instinct: ” . . an innate, typically fixed pattern of behaviour in animals in response to certain stimuli . .”

Intuition:”. .  the ability to understand something immediately without the need for conscious reasoning . .”

Instinct has been explained as the hardwiring that exists in the brain. Whereas intuition is more like the software that works behind conscious thought and often directs it.

In the animal world instincts are dominant. When I use the word ‘ animal’ I am not referring to human beings. Technically Homo sapiens are part of the animal world (some are more a part of that world than others) but I digress. In the animal kingdom many young are born knowing everything they need to know to survive. Some spend a few years learning the ropes. But can you imagine letting a two-year-old human child loose to survive in this world? I would not suggest it.

We may not have the instincts of most of the animal kingdom but we do have intuition.  My question is this:  has the human intuition evolved from our once hardwired instincts? There are those people who always seem to know the right path to take, the right words to say. Are they perhaps working on a deep-seated instinct that the rest of us are unable to access? I wonder.

I have known people to pick the winning numbers of more than one lottery. Was it just good luck? There are people who seem to live a gifted life. They choose the right life partner, the right job, the right hobbies.  They seem happy and satisfied with their life. Are they? We can never truly know from the outside. But maybe they are. Maybe they just got lucky and made all the right choices or maybe those choices were made by instinct.

I have never heard of any research done into the question of instincts used by human beings. After all it probably isn’t an interesting topic for science. But it is for a curious mind. I’ve always considered myself to be a lucky person. No, I have never won a big lottery or found a life partner etc. etc. But I have had a wonderful life. I have been places that satisfied my curiosity, I have seen incredible beauty in this country and others. I have met fascinating people, in person and online. I feel my life has been blessed. I have a wonderful family; I have incredible friends and experiences to keep my memory satisfied for decades. Were my choices made on instincts or I am just a lucky person?

The next time you make a choice ask yourself this question:  Was this instinct or intuition? I wonder what the answer will be.

Yowzer! You’ve given me so much to think about my head is spinning!

I do know this….when Dan suggested I check out your blog because he was sure I would like it, his intuition was right on target! And when I began reading through your blogs, I knew I would enjoy following you and we would become friends!! So my intuition was in tact.

Hopefully my instincts remain in tact as well. I think sometimes instincts and intuition may be all that keeps us going.

LOVE your painting! Have a wonderful Sunday my friend.

Awwww, now I’m blushing! Wait! WTH? Now my head has gotten bigger and I can’t fit in the doorway. 😳😳 I’ll just give it a couple of minutes and life will throw something at me that will knock it back down to size!! 😜😂 Hmmmm, is that my instincts at work or my intuition? 🙄

This is a lot to ponder, Pam. My instinct often gets me in trouble. I think I need to spend more time exploring where my intuition is hiding. I do frequently borrow my wife’s intuition – hers is very often spot-on (grumble grumble).

Great thoughtful post dear lady 😀
From a scientific approach…we are big magnets. Magnets of love. And as we go through our lives it will nudge us by attracting exactly what is required to find that love. Whether its a relationship pole reversal (divorce) or a full on attraction (falling in love), each step a variation in that attracting energy so that we can discover what works for us or doesn’t. Each step removes the iron filings between the magnets that always seem to stop it from a perfect fit.
Our ‘instincts’ are that constant current moving through them, occasionally spiked with a burst that sends us off trail (affairs, and more iron filings), or a lack of current to slow us down (dull job, drinking too much, really more iron filings).
But the ‘intuition’ is something else again, that burst within us that melt those iron filings and blend us to that closer fit which will allow us to feel those sensitive currents at a greater distance (the odd Lotto number or two, less iron filings) or that meeting in the most incredible moments (soul mate meetings, no iron filings at all).
But from a spiritual approach…my higher self told me to do it. Hey, I can at least pass the buck then 😂

You make an interesting observation here. I realized that I’ve used instinct and intuition interchangeably without considering that, as you pointed out, they have different underlying meanings.
Now I have to consider that most of the things I’ve thought were instinct, were in fact intuition.
