A Pinecone and a Leaf,
Lay all in a row,
I think they were shivering,
And waiting for snow.
The days now grow colder,
And the sun, not so hot.
It seems winter is here,
And that’s what we got.
I know I should be thankful,
To experience four seasons.
But the truth of the matter,
Defies all of my reasons.
I want warm but not hot,
With the gentlest of breezes.
Sunshine each day,
Well that truly pleases.
I want rain after dark,
To water the flowers.
Not hurricane like,
But sweet calming showers.
I know what I’m asking,
Can never be done.
But dreaming’s an art form,
And it’s my kind of fun!
A Pinecone and a Leaf,
Lay next to each other.
They started this poem,
And maybe another…
The accompanying photograph was provided by Dan over at nofacilities.com. He and Maddie are most generous with the fruits of their walks. Thanks Dan!
Good one. There’s a gentleness about the poem . The rhyme scheme of ‘abcb’ adds to the beauty. I could sniff winter in the lines😊😊

What a lovely and whimsical poem. Saji is right, it is a gentle poem, yet it speaks your thoughts loud and clear.
Now, you know what you’ve started Pam, right? Every time Maddie finds a piece of nature that intrigues her, Dan will be taking pictures like a madman trying to get just the right shot “just in case” you see a poem, or a story, in it! Love it! You guys do all the work and we all reap the benefits of your combined talents.

I am inspired by my readers and that pushes me to do more. Actually, next week is a companion poem to this one. Dan and Maddie get the best photos!

Love the why you started and ended with the pinecone and the leaf. In the US, many say San Diego has the best weather.

I’ve always wanted to visit San Diego. I did once, virtually. I had a blast wandering around through Google earth and the Internet. It looks like a lovely city.

Wow, Pam. You made Maddie and I very proud. That leaf was one of the things that Maddie just sniffed and sniffed. I was compelled to take the picture, hoping only that some would find it interesting. I had no idea that you would be inspired to write such beautiful thoughts around it. As others have said, it’s such a gentle poem. Your words are woven like a fine tapestry.
Thank you!

All of God’s doings are an art form, just like your poem dear lady. Did God make you too? 😂 🤣

I don’t think he was in the room but then I wasn’t there. I couldn’t say for sure. And that’s not a question I would ask either of my parents!
