Thirty Years of Wonder
What a sad waste of that moment. Once you’ve recorded that moment, it’s gone. It’s history. You missed your chance to live in it then, and you can’t live in that moment now.

Boy is that true. Sometimes I have to remember to just put the camera down and take it all in.

There is a very fine line between observing and living.

Considering the pandemic recording is the closest many of us can come to living the moment. And recording and sharing the moment is the best and safest substitute. So I for one will not knock it. And once this craziness is over well record it you must and jump into the moment the moment your finger comes off the record button.

I don’t know how many times I have scrambled to take a picture of something…and missed it…and my time with it too 😀

True Story:
We had a guest who had never been to Scandinavia nor Finland before. We hosted them for a month. We took them throughout Finland and Sweden, even venturing as far as St. Petersburg, Russia. They never read the signage explaining historical sites, preferring to take a photo of the plaques and signage. They seemed almost in a hurry to get to the next destination. I *almost* regret hosting them and for planing so many points of interest.
My motivation in doing so had been to capitalize on the reality this guest would likely never make the voyage to see any of these places ever again. I should have chosen fewer sites and left them to enjoy a few – maybe they would have, or maybe they are so accustomed to ‘box tours’ they will never appreciate anywhere they go fully, instead always rushing to get as many destinations under the belt as possible.

I feel so sorry for people like that. They can honestly say they have been to a destinations but they never experienced it. Isn’t that what travel is all about, the experience?

I agree Pam. Travel experiences are the only I travel anywhere. Never been one for ‘collecting places’ for the sake of saying I’d been there. I’ve also never been on a ‘box tour’ of set planned destinations. Spontaneity or nothing at all works for me.

This is so true. It began with camcorders and then social media got its tentacles into those moments . . .

I am glad I didn’t live my youth surrounded by social media. Really glad!

Yep, those tourist busses are sad sights. There’s maybe one or two people who take the time to actually see, the rest just take selfies.

I feel sorry for them. Live your life looking at pictures only.
