I was walking down the street,
With nary a thought in mind.
When I spied an Albatross,
Flashing his behind.
He raised his head and looked at me,
Perhaps he’s asking who?
So I will do my very best,
And try to think this through.
He seemed to be considering,
What I do not know.
So I approached him warily,
My curiosity in tow.
He turned around and cocked his eye,
He’s giving me a look.
As if to say: he’s thinking,
And I am on the hook!
He took a step and shook his head,
It seems he’s changed his mind,
Then he takes a running leap,
And I am left behind.
With gentle grace he soars above,
High among the clouds,
I am left so far below,
Just one amongst the crowds.
Now I think back fondly,
Of the gift that was bestowed.
Of a gentle creature,
Who for a moment slowed.
Pam, you outdid yourself, again. I love this poem. And your photo is icing on the cake! Wouldn’t it be a hoot if your poem came true? What an experience!

I would love to see an albatross but unfortunately they do not live in my neck of the woods. They did at one time but for some reason they have gone away. Sad.

From captive to restless to free as the wind. Great lesson in that, Pam.

Well, I suppose if I flashed my backside I’d get attention too. Well written dear lady 😂 🤣

I could be wrong but I kind of think if you flashed your backside you might get more attention than you wanted!

That moment of eye-connection with the wildings truly shows us who we belong to, doesn’t it? 🙂
