Brrrrr . . .

IMG_0687

The tip of my nose

Gets cold when it snows

But the top of my head

Stays warm like I said

With a coat and a hat

And a scarf that is fat

I’ll weather the storm

With everything warm

But now down below

Something else is aglow

Two knees and some toes

They’re cold they disclose

I’ll soon make them warm

With the appropriate form

Blankets and shoes

Your choice now you choose

So winter is here

For awhile yet I fear

So enjoy it I say

Each moment, each day.

The sounds of the modern world

On Saturday I posted a quip about losing power and a fellow blogger ‘Traces of the Soul’ responded.  She mentioned that it seemed incredibly noisy when the power came back on.  I called it the sounds of the modern world. She thought that would make a great poem. Hers was posted that same day.  It is wonderful!  Check it out:  “Lights Out!!” at Tracesofthesoul .

Here is mine:

Memories are lost

March 29 2014 007

Over the distance of time

events are forgotten

that shaped a life.

History is written

of the famously known

but the achievements

the wonders

of the ordinary one

slowly succumbs

to the mists of time.

A child of five

wins awards at school

accolades at 15

remembered for a time

but slowly it happens

memory fades

decades meander

as time follows time.

TIME FOR ANOTHER DITTY

    vista cove

TIME FOR ANOTHER DITTY

THIS REALLY CANNOT LAST

I KNOW I AM QUITE WITTY

BUT TOLERANCE GOES SO FAST

I REALLY SHOULD HAVE BETTER FAITH

MY WORK IS NOT THAT BAD

UNLESS PERCHANCE I SEE A WRAITH

THIS TIME I’M FEELING GLAD

THE SUN IS IN ITS SPOT ON HIGH

THE RAIN IS FAR AWAY

BENEATH A TREE I WISH TO LIE

AND WHILE AWAY THE DAY

SO LIKE A BIRD I’LL FLOAT ALONG

A SMILE UPON MY FACE

IF I COULD I’D SING A SONG

BUT SOME MIGHT SAY I’M BASE

AND SO WITH THAT I BID ADIEU

AND MOVE ON DOWN THE ROAD

IT HAS BEEN FUN TO WRITE FOR YOU

BUT NOW I MUST NOT GOAD.

Silly Ditty

March 18 2014 010

The time has come to stop this ditty

the writing is so silly

but yet again I’ll show I’m witty

and pen another dilly

Then everyone would know

the genius that I am

not for me the case of woe

I mean to leave this jam

I’d wing aloft to places far

for famous I would be

never fear I’d be a star

and all the world would see

But here perhaps I think I’ll stay

a silly scribe at heart

the world of wealth I’d keep at bay

and fear a real good start

Not the last this ditty is

I’m sure I’ll pose another

sure to hope my mind won’t fizz

I’ll still be here for tother!

Another Little Ditty

Mar 12 2014 014

ANOTHER LITTLE DITTY

I’M TOLD IT SHOULD BE TRUE

TO STOP WOULD BE A PITY

THE THOUGHTS THEY MUST BE NEW

I’LL NEED A LITTLE TIME

TO FIND THE WORDS TO FIT

FIRST OF COURSE THERE IS THE RHYME

AND NEXT A LITTLE WIT

BUT MORE I THINK IS NEEDED HERE

THAN JUST A PHRASE OR TWO

A LITTLE FUN, A LITTLE CHEER

TODAY THAT’S ALL TOO FEW

SO THAT’S THE WAY I’LL WRITE THIS ONE

I’LL DO THE BEST I CAN

WHEN ALL IS SAID AND ALL IS DONE

THAT ALWAYS IS THE PLAN

WELL THEN I GAVE IT MY BEST SHOT

YOU CANNOT SAY I LIED

EVEN THOUGH I NEVER FOUGHT

AT LEAST THEY’LL SAY I TRIED.

YET ANOTHER DITTY

 Dec 2013 003

YET ANOTHER DITTY

I CANNOT STOP IT SEEMS

TOO SOON I’LL LOSE MY WITTY

AND MUST RESORT TO TEAMS

PEOPLE ALL AROUND ME SURE

THAT I WILL FALL AT LAST

BUT TO MYSELF I’LL STILL BE PURE

AND GIVE A LITTLE BLAST

I’LL GET MY MOTORS GOING STRONG

AND THEN I’LL BE MORE BRIGHT

WHAT CAN I SAY I MAY BE WRONG

BUT WAIT I MAY BE RIGHT

THAT’S ENOUGH TODAY I THINK

IT REALLY WAS QUITE FUN

I DO NOT WISH TO SEEM A FINK

BUT NOW THIS DITTY’S DONE.

A Poem Worth Reading

I didn’t write this poem, I don’t know who did.  A friend sent it to me. My Grandfather and my Father each fought in a world war. May we one day know world peace.

He was getting old and paunchy
And his hair was falling fast,
And he sat around the Legion,
Telling stories of the past.

Of a war that he once fought in
And the deeds that he had done,
In his exploits with his buddies;
They were heroes, every one.

And ‘tho sometimes to his neighbors
His tales became a joke,
All his buddies listened quietly
For they knew where of he spoke.

But we’ll hear his tales no longer,
For ol’ Joe has passed away,
And the world’s a little poorer
For a Veteran died today.

He won’t be mourned by many,
Just his children and his wife.
For he lived an ordinary,
Very quiet sort of life.

He held a job and raised a family,
Going quietly on his way;
And the world won’t note his passing,
‘Tho a Veteran died today.

When politicians leave this earth,
Their bodies lie in state,
While thousands note their passing,
And proclaim that they were great.

Papers tell of their life stories
From the time that they were young,
But the passing of a Veteran
Goes unnoticed, and unsung.

Is the greatest contribution
To the welfare of our land,
Some jerk who breaks his promise
And cons his fellow man?

Or the ordinary fellow
Who in times of war and strife,
Goes off to serve his country
And offers up his life?

The politician’s stipend
And the style in which he lives,
Are often disproportionate,
To the service that he gives.

While the ordinary Veteran,
Who offered up his all,
Is paid off with a medal
And perhaps a pension, small.

It is not the politicians
With their compromise and ploys,
Who won for us the freedom
That our country now enjoys.

Should you find yourself in danger,
With your enemies at hand,
Would you really want some cop-out,
With his ever-waffling stand?

Or would you want a Veteran
His home, his country, his kin,
Just a common Veteran,
Who would fight until the end.

He was just a common Veteran,
And his ranks are growing thin,
But his presence should remind us
We may need his likes again.

For when countries are in conflict,
We find the Veteran’s part,
Is to clean up all the troubles
That the politicians start.

If we cannot do him honor
While he’s here to hear the praise,
Then at least let’s give him homage
At the ending of his days.

Perhaps just a simple headline
In the paper that might say:
“OUR COUNTRY IS IN MOURNING,
A VETERAN DIED TODAY.”

HOW THE WORLD HAS TRAVELLED

IMG_0210

HOW THE WORLD HAS TRAVELLED

I GUESS ONE KNOWS NOT HOW

BUT TIME HAS BEEN THE KEEPER

AS WE’VE GROWN FROM THEN TO NOW

THE JOURNEY IS THE THING THEY SAY

FROM WHICH WE LEARN THE MOST

I GUESS THAT’S TRUE I DO NOT KNOW

OUR WORLD FROM COAST TO COAST

BUT NOW WE HAVE A DUTY

A PRECIOUS CHARGE TO SAVE

OUR WORLD IS OUR MOST CHERISHED JEWEL

THE TASK AT HAND IS GRAVE

PEOPLE OF THE WORLD UNITE

OUR FOE IS NEAR AT HAND

WE HAVE THE POWER WITHIN OUR REACH

TO SAVE THIS PRECIOUS LAND

THE BEAUTY OF OUR EARTH IS DEAR

AND SO WE RAISE OUR VOICE

THE CARNAGE OF THIS WORLD MUST END

TOGETHER, WE WILL MAKE THAT CHOICE.

Trick-or-treat?

IMG_0106_1

There are goblins and dragons

 and werewolves galore

they are walking the streets

 and nearing my door

the witches are pounding

 they want to get in

the dragons are puffing

 and huffing to win

the sound is a terror

the zombies are moaning

so scary to see

the Devils are groaning

there’s evil afoot

every year it’s the same

the crazies come out

for one night of fame

I huddle and cower

my heart in my mouth

they’ll bite me I fear

unless I go south

Perhaps there’s a way

to get what I want

I’ll scare them myself

I’ll do the haunt

So scary I’ll be

just watch me evoke

I’ll teach them a lesson

the bitch, don’t provoke

Happy Halloween
